New rules for Three Peaks Race Cruisers

Entries in Cruising Division of the 2005 Hydro Tasmania Three Peaks Race will benefit from a change in the race rules. The points system used for past years has been replaced by a time handicap system based on the percentage of a team's motoring allowance that has been used during each sailing leg.

"At the conclusion of each sailing leg the elapsed sailing time will have added a time penalty based on the percentage of the motoring distance used", Race Director Alastair Douglas said.

"This will make the progressive results clearly apparent to competitors, media, the public and officials", Douglas said.

The Cruising Division provides sailing members of teams in particular, with an easier entry level into the race that, while still challenging, allows teams the benefit of using a limited motoring allowance when navigating some of the more difficult parts of the course. Teams always ensure that they have sufficient motoring allowance remaining to negotiate the Marion Bay Narrows and the Denison Canal that also shortens the course by about 60 kilometres compared with sailing the longer course around Tasman Peninsula.
