The Tilman Trophy

An award for perseverance and participation.

Updated 19th February 2004

H W TilmanThe Tilman Trophy is named after the famed adventurer, mountaineer, explorer and author, Major Harold William (Bill) Tilman who liked to sail somewhere remote and climb icy mountains.

The trophy provides a special incentive and reward for older crews in slower yachts who do not have a realistic chance of outright honours.

The Tilman Trophy was donated by the British Three Peaks Race Committee and, as in Britain, it is designed as an incentive for smaller yachts, older crews and to generally reward teams which are less competitive but are prepared to do their best. Points are awarded according to the following table.
